⚡ Radiated Immunity Testing in MIL‑STD‑461 and Automotive Standards: Enhanced High‑Field Capability with 3000 W Power Amplification

05.04.2026
Radiated Immunity (RI) and Radiated Susceptibility (RS) testing are essential for validating the electromagnetic robustness of both military and automotive electronic systems. Although these industries operate under different environmental conditions, both require controlled exposure to strong electromagnetic fields to ensure functional reliability.

At Consept EMC Laboratory, we have significantly expanded our radiated immunity capability in the 9 kHz – 230 MHz range by integrating a 3000‑watt high‑power RF amplifier. This upgrade enables us to generate substantially higher field strengths than conventional setups, supporting both MIL‑STD‑461 and automotive EMC standards, including high‑severity OEM requirements.

⚙️ Radiated Immunity in MIL‑STD‑461
RS103 – Radiated Susceptibility (Electric Field)
Frequency range: 2 MHz – 18 GHz

Field strength: up to 200 V/m or higher

Modulation: AM, PM, pulse

Simulates exposure to radar, EW systems, and high‑power RF sources.

RS105 – Transient Electromagnetic Field Susceptibility
Fast‑rise, high‑amplitude EM pulses

Represents HEMP, HPM, IEMI threats

Field strengths reaching tens of kV/m

Validates survivability under extreme transient EM stress.

🚗 Radiated Immunity in Automotive Standards — Including High‑Severity OEM Requirements
While ISO 11452‑2 typically specifies radiated immunity levels in the 30–100 V/m range, several automotive manufacturers impose much higher field strength requirements for safety‑critical ECUs.
Some OEM specifications extend the test severity up to 450 V/m, especially for:

Autonomous driving controllers

ADAS modules

High‑voltage EV/HEV power electronics

Safety‑critical communication units

These elevated requirements ensure that vehicle electronics remain fully functional even in the presence of strong RF fields from high‑power transmitters or external EM sources.

With our 3000 W broadband RF amplifier, Consept EMC Laboratory can comfortably support these 450 V/m ISO 11452‑2 OEM levels, delivering field strengths far beyond standard automotive requirements in the 9 kHz – 230 MHz band.

⚡ Our New High‑Field Capability (9 kHz – 230 MHz)
The integration of a 3000‑watt amplifier allows us to:

Generate exceptionally high electric and magnetic field strengths

Support low‑frequency RS103 requirements

Exceed ISO 11452‑2 OEM high‑severity levels (up to 450 V/m)

Provide future‑proof capability for evolving EMC standards

Perform high‑intensity radiated immunity tests across both military and automotive domains

This positions our laboratory among the few facilities capable of delivering extreme‑severity radiated immunity testing in this frequency range.
