Automotive Type Approval and Homologation

The automotive sector is the most regulated industry in the world. Every part, from a headlight bulb to the complete vehicle, must comply with international safety standards (UNECE Regulations).

The E-mark, also known as the ECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) test mark, and the e-mark, which indicates compliance with EU directives; are marking and certification types that show motor vehicles meet the requirements determined by ECE regulations and EU directives to be sold in the European Union market. The E-mark and e-mark show that products in the transportation sector meet directives, regulations and laws. It is mandatory for motor vehicles and products used in these vehicles to carry the E or e mark in order to be sold in European Union countries.

Vehicle certification in European countries consists of three parts:

  • EU Certification (EC): The e-mark shows that products meet the requirements of EC Directives.
  • ECE Certification (ECE): The E-mark shows that products comply with ECE regulations.
  • National Certification: Shows the compliance of products with the relevant country's own laws.
